About Ms. Peetz

Hello! My name is Cassilyn Peetz and I am a student math teacher in High Tech High's Graduate School of Education. In June of 2021, I graduated from University of California, San Diego with a B.S in Mathematics. During my time there, I took extra courses in math education, with the intent to teach high school or middle school. Before UCSD, I was a student at Palomar College where I developed my love for teaching while tutoring peers in statistics. Whilst I do love math and the complex beauty it brings to understanding our universe, I also find the act of teaching highly rewarding and satisfying, and each day I am excited to show up and facilitate the learning with my students.

Why HTHGSE?

As a former student of High Tech High, I had the good fortune of comfort and fluency with project based learning (PBL). I felt as though the education I received at High Tech was transformative for me personally, and I want to extend those opportunities to my own students. When I was picking programs to apply to for my student teaching, I ultimately decided on High Tech because of their PBL instruction, but also because they prioritize deeper learning as well as their students' wellbeing and mental health.

Why San Pasqual?

When it came to student teaching, I did not want to box myself into High Tech and similar schools. Having already been a student of HTH and never stepping foot inside an actual public school meant that I had no frame of reference for teaching outside of that system. As such, I chose to student teach at a local public school with traditional learning strategies such as test-taking, project based assessments, and working with textbooks. My program and I worked together to make this arrangement work to the best of our abilities, even with significant differences between the districts.
